University of Leicester vice-chancellor Prof Paul Boyle’s pay rose by 2.5 per cent from ₤ 278,000 to ₤ 285,000.

His general pay package, including a ₤ 10,000 bonus and ₤ 8,000 for university-provided living lodging, was ₤ 313,000.

Vice-chancellors pay and conditions are set by independently by reimbursement committees which report to their boards of guvs.
